Yatai stalls selling street food in Fukuoka are the city’s best‑known culinary symbol, regarded by many as “the best places to make friends.” Put on the chef’s apron of a charming yatai and serve food and drinks to the customers and tourists lined up at your stall! Which of you will become the most successful chef in Fukuoka’s nightlife?
Players are the owners of a Japanese street food stall, they will have to manage the queue of customers sitting at their Yatai, queuing up the plates on the fire, filling the fridge with drinks, and serving the first customer in line, all masterfully managed by a 2×3 grid of action tiles!
Yatai started out with the goal of making an Italian-style Eurogame that could convey a Japanese spirit, that had an artistic trait of manga extraction and an expressiveness that could tell a story just by looking at the game boards. The work of our team’s designers and creatives captured this idea, and we feel we have succeeded in communicating this in the traits of the characters, the places shown, and the storytelling that transpires from the game components, taking the player on a journey along the streets of Fukuoka, sitting at a typical Japanese street food, making friends with other customers waiting for their food.
